Why Book a Gatwick Airport Taxi from Kingston

By rail, Gatwick from Kingston usually means a train to Clapham Junction or Wimbledon and a change onto a southbound service. That is fine with a rucksack. It is a lot less fun with two suitcases, a pushchair and a child who has been up since 4am.

A Gatwick airport taxi from Kingston takes you straight from your door to the terminal set-down zone. Many summer flights leave very early, long before trains are running well, and our booking line works through the night, so an early start is easy to arrange.

Gatwick Terminals

Two terminals serve Gatwick, the North and the South, roughly a mile from each other with a free inter-terminal train between them. Which one you need depends on the airline, so double check before you set off.

Gatwick North Terminal Transfers

Plenty of short and long-haul departures leave from the North Terminal, which has its own slip road off the motorway spur. Your driver pulls into the set-down lane nearest your airline.

Gatwick South Terminal Taxi

The South Terminal is joined to Gatwick railway station and hosts a broad mix of carriers. Its road peels off at the roundabout where the spur ends. If the ticket is unclear, ring us and we will look it up.

Route, Journey Time and Traffic Tips (M25 / M23)

There are two main ways south from Kingston. The first takes the A3 past Tolworth and Esher to the M25 at junction 10, then runs east to junction 7, where the M23 begins, and south to junction 9 for the airport. The second follows the A240 through Ewell and the A217 over Reigate Hill to join the M25 at junction 8, then east to the M23.

The journey is about 22 miles. On a quiet road it takes around 40 minutes, and closer to an hour at peak times. These are typical estimates. Watch out for the A3 at Tolworth and Hook in the morning rush, the M25 between junctions 9 and 7 on Friday afternoons, and holiday Saturdays when half of south London is heading for the same runway.

Gatwick Trips from Across the Borough

Gatwick is the holiday airport of choice for many Kingston families, partly because the road route avoids central London entirely. Pickups from Surbiton, Tolworth and Chessington are especially quick, as they are already close to the A3 and the M25. From Teddington or Ham, add a few minutes to cross the river and get onto the A3.

On busy summer Saturdays, half of south-west London seems to head for the same motorway. If your flight leaves late morning on a weekend in July or August, we will usually suggest a slightly earlier pickup.

Gatwick Airport Cars

Holiday luggage takes up room, so pick the car to suit your bags as well as your group.

Saloon / Estate / MPV / 8 Seater Minibus

  • Saloon, four seats and room for a pair of big suitcases, the everyday choice
  • Estate, the same four seats with a long boot for extra cases, skis or a buggy
  • MPV, six seats and space for roughly four large cases, see our 6 seater taxi
  • 8 seater, seven or eight seats for big families and groups, see our 7 seater taxi

Need a child seat? Add it when booking with the age and weight of each child.

Meet and Greet Pickup at Gatwick

On the way home, your driver tracks your flight and adjusts to the actual landing time. With meet and greet, they wait in the arrivals area of your terminal holding a name board, help with your cases and walk you to the car. Without it, they call as soon as you land. A late flight never changes your price.

Families and Summer Holidays

Summer is our busiest time for Gatwick runs. Families heading to Spain, Portugal and the Greek islands often fly early, with plenty of luggage and car seats. A 6 seater taxi keeps everyone together, and child seats are available on request.
