Why drive rather than take the train?

From Kingston, the rail route to King's Cross means South Western Railway into Waterloo, then the Northern line north. It is cheap and it works. It is also two stations' worth of escalators, a busy Tube and a lot of lifting if you are carrying cases for a week in Edinburgh.

A door to door King's Cross station cab removes all of that. You load the boot outside your house and unload outside the station.

Who travels from Kingston to King's Cross

Most of our King's Cross passengers fall into a few groups.

  • Families heading north on LNER to York, Newcastle or Edinburgh
  • Eurostar travellers off to Paris, Brussels or Amsterdam from St Pancras next door
  • Students returning to universities in the north with a car full of belongings
  • Business travellers catching Thameslink trains from St Pancras towards Cambridge or Luton

King's Cross and St Pancras sit side by side, so one drop-off works for both.

Taxi to St Pancras from Kingston

King's Cross and St Pancras International face each other across Pancras Road, so one drop-off point serves both. If you are catching Eurostar, follow its advice on arrival times, then add the drive. We will suggest a pickup time when you book.

The route across London

The quickest road route usually avoids the very centre. Drivers take the A3 north through Robin Hood roundabout and Putney Vale, cross the river at Putney Bridge, head through Earl's Court and up past Hyde Park to Marylebone Road. That road becomes Euston Road and runs straight to King's Cross.

Marylebone Road and Euston Road form the northern edge of the Congestion Charge zone, so this route can avoid entering the zone at all. When the A3 or Putney Bridge is badly jammed, the driver may cut through Vauxhall and Bloomsbury instead.

The trip is about 14 miles. Allow around 50 minutes in light traffic and 75 minutes or more in the rush hour. These are typical estimates.

Getting the timing right

LNER trains to Scotland are often fully booked, so missing yours is expensive. We suggest arriving 20 to 30 minutes before departure, which gives time to find the right coach and grab a coffee. On Friday afternoons, when everyone is leaving London, add another 15 minutes to the pickup.

Collecting you from King's Cross

Trains from the north often arrive late in the evening, after a long day. Book your return before you travel and tell us the train. If it runs late, call us and we will move the pickup. Our line is answered 24 hours.

Eurostar weekends from Kingston

Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam are a single train from St Pancras, and a weekend away starts far better without a stressful Tube journey. Book the car for an early Saturday departure and the roads into town are usually quiet. Coming back on a Sunday evening, give us your Eurostar arrival time and the driver will be waiting.

University runs to the north

King's Cross is the gateway to York, Durham, Newcastle and Edinburgh, which makes it a big station for students. At the start and end of term we carry plenty of Kingston students and their belongings north to the station. Choose an estate or a people carrier if there are boxes, bedding and a desk lamp to fit in.

Which car to book

  • Saloon, four passengers and two big suitcases
  • Estate, extra boot room for students and long trips
  • MPV for up to six, see the 6 seater taxi
  • 7/8 seater for groups, see the 7 seater taxi

Child seats are available on request.

Collecting visitors from the north

Family and friends visiting Kingston from Yorkshire, the North East or Scotland often arrive at King's Cross. Book a car to meet them, and they will be taken straight to your door rather than facing the Tube and a change at Waterloo with their cases.

King's Cross taxi prices

Every Kingston to King's Cross journey has a fixed price agreed when you book. It depends on the time of day, the size of car and any extra stops, not on how long the traffic holds you up. Pay by card or cash.

Other stations and airports

Trains to the West Coast leave from next door at Euston, covered by our Kingston to Euston cab. For the west, see the Kingston to Paddington minicab. Heading north by air instead? The Luton Airport taxi from Kingston uses the M1. We collect from all over the area, including Norbiton and Richmond.
